Laurinburg, July 11, 2007 - Scotia Village held the official groundbreaking for a new aquatic/fitness center on July 11, 2007. The Scotia Village Building Committee, comprised of Residents and Directors of Scotia Village along with Executives and Board of Trustee Members of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc., picked up shovels and turned the first dirt on the future site to mark the official groundbreaking.

The eagerly awaited construction project will house a 10,404-square foot aquatic/fitness center and café. The building will include an indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi, space for fitness and weight training equipment, and room for formal exercise classes. Contiguous to the fitness center, the café will offer an alternative, informal dining option for residents and their guests.

Scotia Village finished its Capital Campaign by surpassing the goal of $250,000 and raising $355,000 for this project.

Sean Huyett, Executive Director of Scotia Village, stated “This is a very exciting day for Scotia Village, and we look forward to commencing construction and to the completion in May 2008.”

A fulltime Fitness Director will be hired before September 1, 2007 to begin implementing the fitness programs, which will touch on every aspect of wellness.

Scotia Village, an affiliate of The Presbyterian Homes, Inc., is a nationally accredited, non-profit continuing care retirement community situated on 66 wooded acres in Laurinburg, NC.
