"Every staff member here seems to be working to make me happy. Since so many other residents have expressed this same sentiment, we are like a family - for we care for each other."
- Bill Wells

The Presbyterian Homes Inc. and Scotia Village believe that being well involves more than physical strength or lack of disease, and it goes beyond diet and exercise. TOTAL wellness involves a variety of principles that, when combined, result in a happier and more fulfilling life.
This concept resulted in the Presbyterian Homes Inc. (PHI) developing a multi-faceted approach to obtaining complete wellness, which is exclusive to the residents of the three PHI communities. Our enCompass program encourages participants to find balance in the eight dimensions of wellness: nutritional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, social, environmental, community outreach and safety. Under the direction of our Wellness Director, residents of Scotia Village are encouraged to embark upon an individualized fitness program that addresses their specific needs and abilities. - enCompass, the right direction for your health.
As part of the enCompass program, Scotia Village provides our residents a state-of-the-art fitness center. This fitness center is divided into three distinct areas.
Aquatic Center
This area contains a heated indoor pool, a sauna and a hot tub. The wellness director offers many activities in which our residents can participate including:
- Water Aerobics
- Water Basketball
- Water Walking
- Free Swim
- Strength Training
- Beginning Swim Classes
Work-Out Room
This area is outfitted with the latest in exercise equipment. The equipment is divided into two groups; the cardio line and the strength training line.
The cardio line is designed to increase the heart rate, burn calories and build endurance. The line includes treadmills, recumbent bikes and Nustep recumbant cross trainers.
The strength line is equipped with six different machines designed to increase muscle. These machines are produced by Keiser and are unique because they use air pressure instead of weight to provide resistance. The machines increase muscle mass and help to improve the range of motion in the joints. Residents simply dial the desired amount of resistance instead of lifting heavy weights.
Aerobics Room
The aerobics room is equipped with a rubberized floor which provides traction to reduce falls or injuries due to impact. The room also features a mirrored wall so residents can monitor their form and assure they are performing an exercise correctly. A balance beam extends across the front and back of the room and is used to improve balance and assist in stretching. Many classes and activities take place in this area including:
- Chair aerobics
- Balance Exercises
- Muscular Endurance Exercises
- Stretching
- Chair Volleyball
- Line Dancing
- Table Tennis
- Tai-Chi
- Yoga
- Self-Defense
